It’s good for leash training or sometimes just to get a grip on the pup when he’s too excited.It has a leathery smell that is not too intense, but it’s there for those who don’t like care for it. I personally like it.Like other reviewers mentioned, the chain seems to be discoloring the pups neck, but I’ve ordered a $36 collar that was fabric and chain and the chain on that one did the same. The fur just gets darker below the chin, but it doesn’t take away from th functionality, and I’d assume it would happen with any martingale collar that has the chain added based on my two recent purchases.If your dog is light colored and you’d be bothered by this, seek another type. I’m sure there should be a way to prevent this reaction, I just didn’t bother enough to look into it.We don’t use this collar as much of a restraint, so not sure how well it would hold up to some serious pulling.All in all it’s really beautiful, looks just like new even though it’s been in water at least about 5 times and the pricing is very friendly for the quality.
